The latest Value Investing Podcast is out, this time with an interview of Pat Dorsey on economic moats. Dorsey, earlier at Morningstar, now runs Dorsey Asset Management. To see their “Publications & Commentary,” go here.
This interview is really good, and well worth the time. The interview includes among other things, a few great examples of different kinds of moats, companies enjoying these moats, and some discussions about how to think and where to look to find companies with moats.

Disclosure: I wrote this article myself, and it expresses my own opinions. I am not receiving compensation for it. I have no business relationship with any company or individual mentioned in this article. This article is informational and is in my own personal opinion.
Pat Dorsey has contributed to make moats-stocks digging easy and available to the public investor. “The Little Book That Builds Wealth” he wrote is a “must” for the investor wishing to understand the concept of economics moats and invest in them.
What’s missing though in his book is the process to establish the durability of the found moats. More on that on “Why moats matter” from Heather Brilliant from Morningstar. That’s the secret of the “long term” part of moats investing strategy.
Anyway, Pat DOrsey is always worth the listening. His explanations about moats, and the description of different kinds of moats is golden value. So, go listen and get a refresh from time to time. It certainly helps keeping the investing road clear.
Thanks for that post and this great content.

Samir
Thanks for writing. Another great book on analyzing competitive advantages (that I think is even better than Dorsey’s) is Competition Demystified: A Radically Simplified Approach to Business Strategy , written by Bruce Greenwald and Judd Kahn.
Thanks for the tip. I didn’t know the book. Certainly a good one since it’s written by Bruce Greenwald.
